Squirro is looking for a highly motivated and talented Junior R&D Engineer to join our team in Zurich!

This is an exciting opportunity for someone early in their career and is passionate about coding and software engineering. Working closely with Patrice Neff, Co-Founder, you'll be playing a crucial role in exploring and implementing new ideas and functions, including creating Proofs of Concept (PoCs) and integrating knowledge graphs into our Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) solution.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the engineering and product teams to explore and implement innovative ideas and new functionalities.
  • Develop and maintain high-quality Python code.
  • Create and present PoCs to demonstrate the feasibility of new solutions.
  • Integrate knowledge graphs into Squirro's RAG solution to improve data retrieval and insights.
  • Continuously learn and stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies.
  • Participate in code reviews, testing, and quality assurance processes to ensure robust and reliable software.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to understand requirements and deliver effective solutions.

About You:

Programming isn't just a job for you - it's your hobby and passion. You're a self-starter and keen learner, love Python, and are eager to dive into new, innovative projects. We're looking for someone with existing Python programming experience - either professionally or on their own open-source project - and who can demonstrate an ability to learn quickly.

Your skills & experience:

  • 1-2 years of experience in software development, preferably in an R&D or innovation-focused role.
  • Good level of Python programming ability.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter, with a strong drive to learn and implement new technologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a passion for software engineering.
  • Foundational understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Based in or willing to relocate to Zurich, Switzerland. (Please note, we cannot sponsor work visas for this position.)

Nice to have:

  • A related-degree is nice, but not essential - apprenticeships, career shifters, and on-the-job experience welcome.
  • Frontend programming experience, especially JavaScript/React.
  • Familiarity with knowledge graphs and their applications in AI solutions is a plus.
